MVC- Ocean Expressway w/Entrapment
Saturday, October 16, 2021

At 1:09am on Saturday, October 16, 2021, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted for a head-on motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle belonging to the Maryland State Police Department and two other vehicles on the St. Martin Neck River Bridge along Ocean Expressway. 1100 Paramedic units were first to arrive on scene and confirmed a three vehicle accident with two patients, one of which was entrapped. Upon arriving on scene, Chief Gurnewald established command and requested Engines 1101 & Heavy Rescue 11 report to the scene and initiate extrication efforts. Utilizing cordless Holmatro tools, crews were able to quickly extricate the entrapped patient. Two patients were transported to Tidal Health in Salisbury; one via ground and one via Maryland State Police Trooper 4 helicopter. The third patient was evaluated on scene and refused further treatment. The scene was turned over to the Maryland State Police for further investigation, and Ocean Expressway remained closed for several hours.

Thank you to the Showell Volunteer Fire Department for providing an engine for the landing zone at the Ocean Pines Helipad at 911 Ocean Parkway.
