Outside Fire
Friday, May 21, 2021

At 2:49pm on Friday, May 21, 2021, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted for an outside fire in the area of Rt. 589 & Rt. 90A Worcester County Sheriff's Deputy was first on scene and advised that the fire was several hundred feet into the woods and was spreading through aencampment. Upon arriving on scene, Engines 1101 & 1102 stretched attack lines into the woods to extinguish the fire while Lieutenant Sturgiltook command of the incidentAfter soaking the area, the scene was turned over to the Worcester County Fire Marshal's office for further investigation.

Please remember, especially in times like these where it has been unseasonably dry, to never leave a camp fire unattended. Smokey the Bear reminds us to "pour lots of water on the fire. Drown ALL embers, not just the red ones. Pour until hissing sound stops. If you do not have water, stir dirt or sand into the embers with a shovel to bury the fire. With your shovel, scrape any remaining sticks and logs to remove any embers. Make sure that no embers are exposed and still smoldering. Continue adding water, dirt or sand and stirring with a shovel until all material is cool.”

Units on Scene:  Engine 1101, 1102 Command 11-2, Utility 1180 1100 A1, and FP 11
