At 4:19pm on Wednesday April 22, 2020 , the Ocean Pines Fire Department was alerted for an outside fire. At 4:22pm, the call was upgraded to a boat fire and Showell was alerted for one engine to respond. Initial units arrived to find an approximately 20 ft recreational boat well involved. Chief Grunewald established command while crews quickly placed two 1 3/4" handlines in service and knocked the fire down. Command held units for overhaul. The scene was turned over to the Worcester Co. Fire Marshal’s office and all units returned to service by 5:15pm.
