June 10, 2020

At 1:52pm on Tuesday June 9, 2020the Ocean Pines Fire Department was alerted for a gas leak. Upon arrival, Chief Grunewald established command and determined that contractors struck a natural gas line while digging. Engine 1102 quickly established a water supply from a near by hydrant and placed a 1 3/4 hose line in service to protect exposures and the gas company works if needed.

Sandpiper Energy (A Chesapeake Utilities Company) responded to the scene and after a short time, was able to stop the active leak and eliminate any immediate danger to the community. The scene was turned over to Sandpiper Energy for further repairs.

Please always remember: "Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 or go to their state 811 center’s website a few business days before digging to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you don’t unintentionally dig into an underground utility line."- https://call811.com/
