At the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department, innovation is key to keeping our team ready for any emergency. Last night, our firefighters took something as simple as old pallets and 2x4s and transformed them into an invaluable training prop – a custom-made maze.

This maze allowed our crew to simulate real-world search techniques in a house fire. Navigating through the tight, dark spaces, our firefighters practiced locating and rescuing a life-size rescue mannequin. Training like this helps us perfect critical skills for finding victims in smoke-filled environments, where every second counts.

This creative use of available materials ensures our team stays prepared while being resourceful. As always, safety is our top priority, and training is what ensures we can uphold it.
