?? July 4th Safety PSA from the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department
As we gather to celebrate Independence Day with family, friends, food, and fireworks, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department wants to remind everyone to stay safe and make smart choices this holiday.
?? FIREWORKS SAFETY
Leave the fireworks to the professionals. Consumer fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires.
Sparklers burn at 1,200°F – hot enough to cause severe burns. Supervise children closely and use glow sticks or other safer alternatives.
Never try to relight a “dud” firework. Soak it in water and dispose of it properly.
?? GRILLING SAFETY
Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, railings, and overhangs.
Never leave a grill unattended.
Check your gas grill for leaks before use.
?? WATER SAFETY
Always supervise children near pools, beaches, or bays.
Swim sober and with a buddy.
Wear a life jacket when boating or using personal watercraft.
?? TRAVEL SAFETY
Don’t drink and drive. Designate a sober driver or use a ride-share.
Be alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, and emergency responders.
Let’s celebrate our freedom responsibly and safely. From all of us at OPVFD, have a happy and safe 4th of July! ??????
