At 3:16 am on Wednesday June 8, 2022, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle accident on Racetrack Road, prior to Gum Point Road; Worcester Central advised of a single-vehicle accident with the vehicle on its roof. Upon arrival, the volunteer and career crews discovered the badly damaged vehicle to be empty and the driver ejected from the vehicle. Despite our best efforts, the patient succumbed to their injuries.
With the severity of this accident, the scene was turned over to the Maryland State Police Department for further investigation and reconstruction. Witnesses of the crash are urged to contact police at the Berlin Barrack at 410-641-3101. The investigation continues.
While the exact circumstances that led to this tragic accident may never be known, we do want to ask the community to keep the following items in mind:
· Keep 100% of your attention on driving at all times – no multi-tasking.
· Don’t use your phone or any other electronic device while driving.
· Slow down. Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.
· Always wear your seat belt and drive sober and drug-free.
