Structure Fire (Showell)

December 23, 2022

On Friday December 23, 2022 at approximately 7:08pm the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to assist the Showell Volunteer Fire Department with a working structure fire. The initial report from Worcester Central was that fire and smoke were visible from the front porch and the homeowners were attempting to self extinguish the fire.  Upon arrival, crews found most of the fire had been extinguished and quickly went to work extinguishing the remaining hotspots and completing overhaul. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, the homeowners did acknowledge using heat lamps on the porch. The scene was turned over to the homeowners.

Berlin Fire Company, Ocean City Fire Department and Bishopville Volunteer FIre Department also assisted with this incident.

Please remember heating is the second leading cause of home fires; it is imperative that you keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from any heat source like fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators or space heaters.
