On Wednesday February 1st, 2023 The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was altered to assist Sussex County, Delaware with a confined space rescue at the Atlantic Concrete facility outside of Millsboro. A crew of five made up of Volunteer and Career personnel responded with Heavy Rescue 11 to assist in the efforts to remove a subject who was trapped up to their neck in a sand bin. After working for nearly 6 hours, the subject was freed and transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital. This positive outcome could not have happened without the incredible teamwork of all of the departments involved from the entire state of Delaware to Worcester and Wicomico counties in Maryland.
