On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at approximately 8:24 am, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a Commercial Structure Fire at Tidal Health Gastroenterology on Cathage Road. Worcester Central advised responders that occupants of the facility were reporting light smoke and an electrical odor. Upon arrival, Ocean Pines crews found the facility fully evacuated. Upon investigation, they discovered a haze in the building with a strong electrical odor in the north corridor.

After consulting with a maintenance worker on the scene, it was learned that a duct detector activation had occurred in an HVAC unit on the roof. With the help of Berlin Ladder 6, personnel were able to access the HVAC units on the roof and discovered obvious heat damage and charring within an HVAC unit. Power was secured to the unit, and the incident was brought under control.

The scene was turned over to the Worcester County Fire Marshal's office for further investigation.
