Residential Structure Fire

February 03, 2024

On the evening of Saturday, February 3, 2023, at around 5:54 pm, emergency responders from the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department sprang into action following reports of a residential structure fire in the area of Raft Road in North Ocean Pines. While en route, Chief Joey Widgeon alerted incoming units of a smoke column visible from Racetrack Road and Route 113. Chief Widgeon arrived first on the scene, established command, and swiftly confirmed a working fire in a single-story home.

Efforts by firefighters were immediately directed towards containing and extinguishing the fire, which originated on the back porch and had spread to the attic. Their rapid response and coordinated efforts proved instrumental in curtailing the fire's advance.

Following thorough overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the area was safe, control of the scene was transferred to the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office for a comprehensive investigation into the incident's cause and origin.

The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Showell, Berlin, Bishopville, Ocean City, and Roxana Fire Departments for their invaluable support and collaboration during this challenging operation. The collective efforts exemplify the strength of community and dedication to safeguarding lives and property in times of crisis.
