Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department Urges Firework Safety This Independence Day

Ocean Pines, Maryland – As Independence Day approaches, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) would like to remind residents and visitors of the importance of fireworks safety and adhering to Maryland state laws regarding the use of fireworks.

Firework Safety Tips:

  1. Leave Fireworks to the Professionals: Attend public displays conducted by trained professionals. This year, the Ocean Pines Association will be hosting a celebration and fireworks display at the Veterans Memorial from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM on July 4th, with fireworks to end the night.
  2. Understand Maryland Firework Laws: In Maryland, the sale, possession, and use of fireworks without a permit are illegal. This includes sparklers, firecrackers, and other common fireworks. Only ground-based sparklers and novelty items such as party poppers and snap-and-pops are permitted.
  3. Keep a Safe Distance: Maintain a safe distance from the fireworks display area. Follow all safety instructions provided by the event organizers.
  4. Supervise Children: Ensure that children are supervised at all times during the festivities, especially around fireworks.
  5. Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions while enjoying the fireworks display.

Celebrate Safely at the Ocean Pines Association Event:

The Ocean Pines Association invites everyone to join the community celebration at the Veterans Memorial on July 4th. The event will feature fun activities, food, and entertainment from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display to end the night. This is a great opportunity to enjoy fireworks safely and responsibly.

The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community. We encourage everyone to follow these safety tips and have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
