The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department responded to a high volume of emergencies on July 3rd, handling 13 calls for service as residents and visitors prepared for the holiday weekend.

Among the most significant incidents:

-A 4-vehicle collision on Route 90 involving six patients, which resulted in two transports to Tideal Health for individuals requiring critical care.
-Two Medevac flyouts were coordinated—one for a traumatic injury from a fall, and another following an E-Bike accident, both requiring air transport to regional trauma centers.

At one point, four emergency calls came in simultaneously, including the Route 90 crash, the traumatic injury which resulted in a Medevac flyout, and two additional medical emergencies. Our career staff and volunteer members worked swiftly under pressure, supported by outstanding mutual aid partners to ensure every call was handled with urgency and professionalism.

E-Bike & Pedestrian Safety
E-Bikes are a fast-growing form of transportation and recreation. Riders should always wear helmets, follow traffic rules, and remain aware of speed, terrain, and surroundings.
Drivers—please be alert for E-Bikes, bicycles, and pedestrians, especially in residential areas, crosswalks, and along trails. A moment of awareness can prevent a life-altering incident.

Call 911 for Emergencies
While our South Station is staffed 24/7, there are times—such as July 3rd—when all crews may be actively engaged in multiple incidents. If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. Dispatchers will coordinate the closest and most appropriate response, even when our crews are already committed.
