House Fire- South Ocean Pines

May 09, 2020

At 3:31pm on Saturday May 9, 2020 , the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for an outside fire. At 3:33pm, the call was upgraded to a residential structure fire and additional responses were requested from the following Fire Departments: Berlin, Bishopville, and Showell. Chief Grunewald was the first to arrive on scene, confirming a working fire in the rear of the house and established command. Arriving units placed two 1 3/4" handlines in service and with swift action, were able to knock the fire down, containing it to the screened porch. Thankfully at the time of the fire, the residents were home and quickly evacuated to the end of their driveway and called 911. After a brief period of overhaul and ventilation, the scene was turned over to the Worcester Co. Fire Marshal’s office.

As a reminder, fires can happen when we least expect it, so it is important to have and practice your home fire escape plan with your family monthly.
