Residential Structure Fire (Lightning Strike)

March 18, 2021

At 8:01pm on Thursday, March 18, 2021, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted for a residential structure fire on the 30 block of Martinique Circle.  Worcester Central advised that the caller stated, "they thought their home was struck by lightning and they thought their TV was on fire/smoking." Additional responses were requested from the Berlin, Bishopville, Ocean City, Showell, and Selbyville Fire Departments.

Chief Grunewald arrived on scene, established command, and instructed the crew from Engine 1102 to begin investigating the incident. Interior crews found no signs of fire in the home and advised command to hold the incident to Ocean Pines units.

Crews from Engine 1103 & Tower 11 identified a tree that showed signs of recent lightning strike (scarring on the bark from the branches in the canopy to the roots).

The scene was turned over to the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office for further investigation.

Units on Scene: Ocean Pines Engine 1102, 1103, Tower 11, Command 11, 1100 A3, FP 11 as well as the Ocean Pines Police Department and the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office.
