At 12:47pm on Sunday, May 23, 2021, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted for a Motor Vehicle Accident w/rollover along eastbound Ocean Expressway, west of Rt 589. 1100 Paramedic A1 was first on scene and confirmed rollover w/2 patients and no entrapment. Upon arriving on scene, Rescue 11 and Engine 1101 provided blocking for the accident and worked to clear debris from the roadway as Chief Widgeon of the Showell VFD commanded the incident. Both patients were evaluated and transported to Tidal Health for further treatment. The scene was turned over to the Maryland State Police for further investigation.  

Each summer, as visitors come to the area, we see a large increase in traffic along roadways in our first due; often causing periods of stop and go, sudden stops, or even standstills. Please remember to stay alert, slow down, and avoid distractions like cell phones, GPS, adjusting radio controls, talking with passengers etc. ZerodeathsMD.com says that “on average, more than 180 people die every year in Maryland from distracted driving crashes, and more than 26,000 more are injured.  Think about the dangerous consequences of a missed stop light or failing to stop at a crosswalk. Now, compare that with missing a call or sending a text. You’re right: there is no comparison”.
