At 6:52am on Friday, August 20, 2021, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted to assist Showell for a residential structure fire on Turnberry Lane in the River Run community. Worcester Central advised that the caller stated, "they thought their home was struck by lightning and they had light smoke in the residence". Additional responses were requested from the Berlin and Bishopville Fire Departments.
Ocean Pines Assistant Chief Widgeon arrived on scene, established command, and instructed the crew from Engine 1102 to begin investigating the incident. Interior crews found slight haze within the home and observed two breakers tripped within the electrical box. Utilizing thermal imaging cameras, firefighters scanned the home to ensure there was no active fire.
Once it was determined there were no active hazards, command was terminated and all units returned to service..
