At approximately 11:30pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Ocean Pines Vol. Fire Department was alerted to respond to a motor vehicle accident on Racetrack Road in the area of Adkins Road; Worcester Central advised of a two vehicle accident. While en route, Worcester Central advised that a police officer was on scene and was requesting an expedited response.
1st Assistant Chief Joey Widgeon was the first fire officer on scene and established command of the incident. Based on the initial reports and the severity of the collision, Ocean Pines Paramedics requested a response from the Maryland State Police Medevac, Trooper 4. Three patients were evaluated with one refusal, one transport to Tidal Health, and one transport by Trooper 4 to Shock Trauma.
The scene was eventually turned over to the Maryland State Police Department for further investigation and reconstruction. The road remained closed for several hours.
