Tree into a House

October 30, 2023

On Saturday October 28th, at approximately 11:38pm, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was requested to respond to a public service call. Worcester Central advised that a large tree had fallen on a house and all occupants had evacuated. Upon arrival, crews found a large tree laying across the peak of a two story single family home. The crew from engine 1102 made entry into the home to investigate the damage to the interior and structural elements of the home. While investigating in the attic, it was determined that despite an approximately 2' x 4' breach in the roof, no utilities or other structural components were immediately observed to be damaged.

After confirming the occupants of the house did not want medical attention, the scene was turned over to the homeowners. Worcester Central was advised to alert the building department of the incident.

REMINDER: While we love the beauty that comes from having so many trees in our community, it is imperative that residents contact a local tree expert if they ever question the health of a tree. While the most likely time for a tree to fall is during heavy rains or high winds, a sick tree can and will fall/split at any point in time, crushing anything in its path. Please be proactive and take action while following the Architectural Review Committee guidelines.
