On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at approximately 10:51 pm, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for an outside fire in the area of Watertown Rd and Deerfield Ct. Worcester Central informed responders that the caller, located on Watertown Rd, could see trees on fire behind their residence, near Deerfield Ct.
Upon arrival, personnel found an attended but unapproved controlled burn behind a residence. Personnel from Engine 1102 quickly extinguished the fire to ensure it did not spread, and the homeowner was educated on OPA burning regulations.
Please remember that OPA allows wood-burning fire pits with screens; however, accelerants cannot be used. Additionally, the burning of plastic, painted or treated wood, rubber, leaves, grass, pallets, or household trash is strictly prohibited.
