On Saturday December 16, 2023 at approximately 9:25am the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a residential structure fire on Sandyhook Road. Worcester Central advised responding units that the caller stated his power panel had popped and the laundry room was now on fire. Upon arrival, First Assistant Chief Steve Grunewald took command and advised of light smoke conditions. Crews from Engine 1102 and Tower 11 found smoke within the house and obvious signs of charring around the power panel but no active fire. After scanning the walls in the laundry room with a Thermal Imaging Camera as well as the attic area above the laundry room no extension was found, and the incident was placed under control.
Thank you to the Showell, Berlin, Bishopville, and Ocean City departments for their assistance.
REMINDER: Fire is FAST! There is little time to escape. It only takes minutes for thick, black smoke to fill your home. If you even remotely think your house may be on fire, evacuate the structure immediately.
