New Year’s Eve Safety PSA

December 31, 2024

As we prepare to ring in the New Year, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department wants everyone in our community to celebrate safely and responsibly. Here are some important tips to help ensure a safe and joyful start to 2025:

Fireworks Safety

Leave it to the Pros: Attend professional fireworks displays rather than lighting your own.

Party Safety

Plan Ahead: Designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service if you’re drinking alcohol.
Monitor Your Guests: If you’re hosting, make sure guests have safe ways to get home and that alcohol consumption is moderated.
Mind the Decorations: Keep candles and sparklers away from flammable items such as curtains, tablecloths, and decorations.

Home Safety

Stay Alert in the Kitchen: If you’re cooking, don’t leave stoves or ovens unattended.
Test Your Smoke Alarms: Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
Extinguish Candles: Always blow out candles before leaving a room or going to sleep.

General Safety

Drive Carefully: Roads may be crowded or icy. Drive defensively and watch for pedestrians.
Be Fire-Ready: Know your emergency exits and have a plan in place in case of fire.

The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department is here for you, 24/7. Let’s work together to make this New Year’s Eve safe and enjoyable for everyone. Remember, in case of emergencies, don’t hesitate to call 911.

From all of us at the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department, we wish you a Happy New Year filled with health, happiness, and safety!

Stay safe, Ocean Pines!
