As we reflect on 2024, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) looks back on a year of unwavering commitment, service, and community support. OPVFD is a Combination Fire Department, meaning we have both Career and Volunteer members working alongside each other to serve the community.

Ocean Pines, MD – January 29, 2025 – At approximately 4:22 p.m. on Wednesday, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) was dispatched to a reported water rescue in the area of 896 Ocean Parkway. Upon arrival, crews located a 15-year-old minor stranded on a small island in the middle of Off Shore Lake.

Ocean Pines, MD – January 22, 2025 – On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at approximately 5:40 PM, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) was dispatched to assist the Ocean Pines Police Department in a search for a missing child. Worcester Central advised that a 10-year-old autistic boy had been reported missing and was last seen at approximately 4:05 PM.

Ocean Pines, MD – As clocks fall back this Sunday, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department urges all residents to make the most of this time by ensuring their homes are safe. Along with adjusting clocks, residents should check their smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to ensure they are working properly. “Change Your Clocks, Check Your Alarms” is a simple reminder that could make all the difference in a life-threatening situation.

At the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department, innovation is key to keeping our team ready for any emergency. Last night, our firefighters took something as simple as old pallets and 2x4s and transformed them into an invaluable training prop – a custom-made maze.

On Friday, July 12, at approximately 10:36 PM, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the area of 10535 Racetrack Road. Upon arrival, Fire Chief Joey Widgeon advised incoming units of a tow truck that had veered off the roadway into the woods.

This agreement marks a historic milestone in the partnership between the two organizations and sets the stage for continued collaboration and service to the community.

Ocean Pines, Maryland – As Independence Day approaches, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) would like to remind residents and visitors of the importance of fireworks safety and adhering to Maryland state laws regarding the use of fireworks.

The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 100 block of Ocean Parkway. The caller told dispatchers they saw fire and smoke in the crawl space under the house.

On Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, at approximately 9:42 pm, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the area of 2689 Ocean Expressway. Worcester Central advised incoming units of a four-vehicle accident at the top of the first bridge heading into Ocean City.

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 2:45pm, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department responded to a medical emergency. After evaluating the patient, EMS providers determined the patient needed to be air-lifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
